“Sing like no one’s listening, love like you’ve never been hurt, dance like nobody’s watching, and live like its heaven on earth.” — Mark Twain
It’s F-R-I-D-A-Y — are you ready to let loose, get your groove on, have fun and dance? Many times we are so caught up in life that we neglect to have fun. The twenties seem to be the partying phase of our lives. Then our lives seem to take a turn as we focus more on careers, marriage, family and kids. But the person who likes to have fun is still there inside of us just waiting to be let loose. It’s important to our well being to have fun. When we’ve had our dose of fun we are happier, feel more optimistic, and therefore are more pleasant to be around.
Here’s a story about me getting my dose of fun:
I love music — all types, and I really like to dance. About two weeks ago I was driving by myself to Borders Books. I put on a cd my hubby made for me, and I started dancing to Beyonce’s song “Get Me Bodied.” Well I was so into doing my thing that I ran a red light. I didn’t even know it until the cop turned on his siren. I looked into my rearview mirror as I was about to make the turn into the shopping center and saw him. I thought, “Oh, there’s a cop. Well I’m turning so I’ll be out of his way.” I made the left turn and the cop was still behind me. Then I thought, “Oh, I think he may be after me. I didn’t do anything. Did I do anything? What did I do?” So I pulled over as soon as I could and the nice young cop came up to me and said “Mam, do you know you just ran that red light back there?” I was truly surprised and I’m sure my face showed it. All I could do was say I was sorry and that I didn’t know because “I had the music up loud and I was just in my zone jammin away, doin my thing.” He smiled, chuckled and told me next time to be more aware. Whew! Thank God I didn’t get a ticket! He didn’t even write me a warning. I’m sure he got a good chuckle and a surprise at pulling over this 40 something woman for running a red light because she was dancing. Who said cops can’t be nice. I’ve been more aware since then. But I have to tell you, I really was having a great time — just me and the music. The point of the story is…..yes life is busy, take the time, make time for fun — even if it’s just dancing by yourself. Just be careful if you’re driving in the car. Ok, ok you want to hear the song I’m talking about. Then watch the video below but catch your breath and keep reading after the video is over. Enjoy!
In the early eighties, every Friday morning for about a year, I used to wake up to this song on the radio — Living It Up (Friday Night) by Bell & James. It used to get me in a good mood just hearing it and knowing it was Friday. I was able to find it on Youtube to share with you. Now go get your groove on! Do you have a funny story you’d like to share about your experience having fun? Happy Friday!

Damn, you must have been in my head this morning. I got up and put on a sassy little shirt under my sweater, leaving it unbuttoned to show a little cleavage.. feeling good, looking good. Then I put on my i-pod and earplugs- yes, a car no-no, and put on Taj Mahal’s new CD, Maestro. The song Hello Josephine! I”m rocking, back and forth in my car, singing, dancing in my seat ! I don’t normally dance- a little self-conscious. And, then suddenly realize that I’m being watched.. Guy in next lane looked amused. Here’s this 50-something woman going at it! I stopped because it dawned on me that I might fail to pay enough attention to driving! No cops around and I didn’t run any lights…
Isn’t it fun to let loose.
That is too funny. It just proves, we may get older in years but still remain hot and young at heart! Yes, it really is fun letting loose. Thanks for sharing your story. Keep on groovin.
Wow, a cop with a sense of humor, you are one lucky gal.
Music is my survival. I wake up to it, plug my ipod in the minute I get in the car and am oblivious to the stares I get while bumping my head driving down the highway – stereo kicked way up. It is a sure fire way to put me in a great mood before tackling my work day. Great little piece. thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Like you, music just lifts my spirits. If it’s got a good beat, I’ve got to move. I’ve often wondered why others don’t feel it the way I do. Glad to know there are a few more people out there like me. I counted my blessings after the incident with the cop. That was a first. Hope you have a great day my car dancing friend!
