Life Lesson #2 — Where do we get our Beliefs?

I don’t know about you, but I didn’t arrive on earth knowing jack! Wish I’d learned a lot sooner that we are all automatically enrolled in the School of Life. It sure would have been nice to get the lesson plan in advance — don’t you think? But then again, maybe if I saw it I would’ve said, “Pass. I don’t want to participate. This Life thing looks too tough. I’d like something more fun please.” So what’s next. Now begins the massive download of information into our brains from parents, teachers/schools and religion. Sheesh! There are so many things to learn and so many rules! We learned everything we know. From walking, talking (language), and riding a bike, to reading, writing and arithmetic. Even how to be in relationships. Yep, all learned. In the book titled, “The Four Agreements,” by Don Miguel Ruiz, he lays it all out. “We learned how to behave in society; what to believe and what not to believe; what is acceptable and what is not acceptable; what is good and what is bad; what is beautiful and what is ugly; what is right and what is wrong. It was all there already –all that knowledge, all those rules and concepts about how to behave in the world.” So this got me thinking. Your religion and religious beliefs can be due solely to what part of the world you were born in, what part of that country you were born in, or what family you were born into. Where was your choice? Are we all just being cloned into a way of thinking and behaving? Of course, when it comes to money and wealth, those lessons aren’t shared with the collective. But that’s a whole other conversation. If you never question and change, most likely you’ll grow up living the same kind of life as the majority of the population — too busy, stressed out, and just a few paychecks away from being homeless. We long for something more, a better way — inner peace, meaningful lives, meaningful work, joy and a better quality of life. Examine what you believe and why. Wake up people! Just like in the movie “The Matrix” — you have a choice, you can take the Blue Pill and stay asleep, or take the Red Pill (reality) and wake up. The choice is yours.
