I was thinking about relationships and how often people are let down, disappointed and betrayed. Many times I’ve heard friends ask…..”why would he/she lie?” My first impulse is to say that people lie so they don’t have to deal with the consequences. But I also know that sometimes people will lie to protect someone, to get something from someone, or to give others the impression that their life is better than it really is, or they want to seem like they have their stuff together. Now please don’t shoot me or leave me nasty comments. These are just my thoughts based upon my observations and experiences. Whatever the reason, lies are often discovered and people are hurt — sometimes devastated. No one likes being deceived, but people still do it. What happened to “treat others as you want to be treated?” If you want to find out more check out this article:

Since we’re on the subject — lately I’ve been watching a new television show called “Lie to Me.” http://www.fox.com/lietome/. It stars Tim Roth as Dr. Cal Lightman. The drama is based on the real-life scientific discoveries of Paul Ekman. The series follows Lightman and his team of deception experts as they assist law enforcement and government agencies to expose the truth behind the lies. The show is worth watching. Just for fun, the web site has a series of tests you can take to see how good you are at spotting people when they lie. Here’s the link: http://www.fox.com/lietome/lightmantests/. If you want to know even more you can subscribe to Paul Ekman’s free newsletter, “Reading Between the Lies” at http://www.paulekman.com/newsletter.html
