A beautiful post!!
PP: Thanks. I just fell in love with the picture & quote the first time I saw it.
I wonder why we are often unable to see our own beauty, both inner and outer.
This weekend, I looked through a lot of family photos, including many of me as a child and a young person. With the distance of years, I can see in so many my own beauty(looks and inside stuff) but at the time I thought myself ugly.
Strange. Maybe one day I’ll be able to.
V: It’s funny how we can be so hard on ourselves. I can look at others and see their beauty. Yet when I see some of these same people in photos, it doesn’t always shine through. I was pretty comfortable with my looks until I turned 40 and saw my reflection in an elevator. It was the first time that I could see I looked older. Yet when I look in my bathroom mirror, or some other mirror with good lighting, I feel ok. When it comes to photos of myself now — well sometimes I think I look good and other times I think I look bad. Maybe it’s all in the lighting. I don’t know. I keep myself in shape and still make the effort to look my best when I go out. Twenty years from now I’ll probably be wishing I had the looks I have today. So I don’t sweat it. Look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself good things. Looks will attract, but won’t keep a person. It’s what’s inside a person that really matters. We are all a work in progress.
The concept of Beauty in recent times has undergone quite a transformation. See http://unboundspirit-heena.blogspot.com/2009_09_27_archive.html#8050858694269200945 , a gr8 video showing Evolution in Beauty.
But in my opinion, Beauty cannot be defined really. I associate beauty with character actually, with kindness, with humbleness.
However, beauty definition would differ with each individual. For a model, beauty is grace. For an actor, beauty is flawless skin or looks..
So the definition of beauty is ever changing in this world..
H: Thank you for taking the time to comment. There was actually a documentary of sorts on tv called “The Science of Beauty.” It was probably on Discovery Health channel. It mentioned something about beauty having to do with symmetry. If you ever get the chance to see it, do. I think there is internal and external beauty. Thanks for visiting the blog. Hope you’ll come back again. Take care, A.
